Does the Keene, NH Government Gang Care About its Fellow Man?

Over at FreeKeene.com, Sam writes that the law library in the Cheshire county prison is antiquated at best and asks that we call officials of the local government gang to find out what the holdup is. So I did. Pardon the weird throat noises, I called before drinking my morning coffee. Check out the 4.5 minute mp3 audio of my calls.

Lots of Unreachable Officials

First, I called Rick Van Wickler, Jail Superintendent at (603) 283-3304. I got his answering machine and left a message. Then I called Peter Heed, County Attorney at (603) 352-0056 and left a message with a new secretary. County Commissioner Jack Wozmak at (603) 352-8215 was next but he’s out of town. So I had an interesting discussion with the receptionist. This is the best call on the recording. I tried calling John Lynch, “governor” at (603) 352-8215 as well but it looks like Terry the receptionist blocked my number from calling again! Weird, eh? I tried that twice and got the same error message both times.

Will You Call, Too?

Will you make these calls, too? At worst I think you’ll have some fun and hone your statist deconversion tactics. The fact is that if they demand a monopoly on justice at least they should provide the ability for folks to understand their legal system and adequately defend themselves without having to go bnkrupt paying off a member of their legal society. It’s just the basics.

Well done. This is a very clear example of the compartmentalization that enables the system to keep everyone’s conscience clear.

I think you’re right. I think it’s also an example of something Marc Stevens was talking about on FreeManRadio last night. People go into trances of a sort, like when she so readily repeated that Wozmak was out of town. And you have to cajole them out of that, to make them think, so the trance will be broken.

Yeah, cajoling is the #1 way I get people’s attention in a dialog on any particular topic. And I tend to overuse it online, such that come off as a complete ass. But over the phone, it’s about the only tool you have.

I mean, it’s an honest question to ask people who are paid by public funds to justify their total lack of curiosity.

Hehe, I was rather taken aback when she said she wasn’t interested.

Did you review PA, NH, and US wiretap laws before deciding to record conversations with those you spoke with, and thereafter posting evidence of those possibly surreptitiously recorded conversations? (I realize you don’t care that the law says what it says because it is bourne from an aggressor, but be weary of potential consequences.)

Secondly, I’m not sure how effective you expected to be by cold calling people on topics and speaking in abstractions about the state of things (although I do realize you reached many people who apparently didn’t have intimate knowledge on the subject and may not even be able to attain that knowledge.) I see that the person who wrote the article that informed you of this situation was more specific about the situation. I have to believe that if your goal is change, then you probably have to take on the more drawn out task of seeking the official means for records (possibly a right-to-know/freedom-of-information thing) to see what indeed the the jail does or does not have, compare it with the blog author’s notes, later write letters to all the probably appropriate parties stating that someone with the knowledge and authority to expound on the state of law access in prisons denoted this situation, and how it is unfathomable that such a situation can be pursuant to due process, blah blah.

However, maybe you will get lucky and reach one of the actually responsible parties and they will just know what you’re talking about. I don’t know how you’ll confirm anything has changed, however, unless you link up with some Keene-folk.

I am in touch with a lot of the Keene folks. I think all they wanted were bodies to help them put some pressure on folks. I filled that mission.

The evidence gleaned from the “op” is another brick in the wall of the argument against the state. It’s also entertainment and reinforcement for libertarians – it brings us closer together. I’m not claiming this one little article brings a lot of people together, I’m saying this kind of activity when repeated enough and when done right will promote greater cohesion for the cause.

Also, confronting statists is part of my project to spark evolutions in 6 billion minds worldwide. So something like this is a small step towards any of a dozen projects or goals I am working on.
