Dog Training & Domination Strategies

If you’ve ever had a dog, you know (s)he needs training: potty training, obedience training, fetch training, clicker training. This is a lot of work that really pays off later in your dog’s long life.

My Golden was Trained

Some people might think my Golden Retriever has not been properly trained (read: controlled) but he really has been. We hired two different trainers when he was still a pup and both my wife and I have worked with him quite a bit.

Yet he will not heel on command, return the tennis ball to me or even always obey me.

And that’s the way I like it!

“Please master, don’t beat me again.”

Very Content

Have you seen the dog that whimpers, hunches and even pees himself at the sight of his master? I have and I think its a terrible shame. This poor dog’s body language says: “Please master, don’t beat me again.”

These folks take great pride in dominating their ‘beast’. Yet all they have done is crush the spirit of a poor gentle animal and mark themselves as cruel.

“Come on, let’s play!”

When my dog sees me, his wagging tail and good posture say “Hi Dad!” or “Come on, let’s play!”

I Want Him to be My Buddy

Have you seen the dog that whimpers, hunches and even pees himself at the sight of his master?

My dog pulls at his leash, barks at other dogs and doesn’t heel too well. That’s ok because I want him to be my buddy and playmate, not my slave beast.

He Does His Business Outside

My Golden has the important stuff down though. He only does his business outside on the grass, he listens when i say ‘no!’ and he is gentle with puppies and kids.

He Needs to Know His Place in the Pecking Order

And if he humps your leg, well its only because he needs to know his place in the pecking order. ;)
