Jason Gatties Resigns as BTP Chair

November 21, 2008

Jason Gatties resigned this morning as Chairman of the Boston Tea Party, citing family health issues and his wife’s pregnancy. We already knew that Jason was facing some serious family issues, but the resignation comes as a surprise. Vice-Chairman Douglass Gaking is reportedly set to take over as Chairman.

The Boston Tea Party deserves a Chairman who can dedicate 100% towards the cause. I’m simply unable to do that at this time. Family comes first and politics will always take a back seat to that. It is for this reason that I must officially resign as Chairman of the Boston Tea Party. I need to tend to family & more importantly, my pregnant wife. There is nothing more important to me than her health and I want to make sure that I can be there to hold her hand during this stressful period. She is very close to her family, but they live an ocean away, so hearing about someone she was close to dying of cancer is just a bit much right now. I’m all she has and I must be there for her. #

Disappointment Reigns

I must say, I am very disappointed. I’m still committed to building the Boston Tea Party. We still - desperately - need a libertarian political party that is committed to transparency, is structurally free of common causes of infighting and member-oriented. I’ve been looking forward to Jason taking the reigns and providing guidance on how I can be of assistance.

I Get it

I get it. His wife needs his support. The very life of their child may ultimately be at stake. We don’t know the exact situation and that is a very private matter that must be respected by honorable people.

Strong and Credible Libertarian Force

I’m still looking for an avenue to build a strong and credible libertarian force in US politics. Where is it and/or how are we going to build it?

Other Coverage

Disclaimer: I ran against Jason - at his suggestion - for Boston Tea Party Chairman less than a month ago.
