Texas Libertarian Candidate for US Senate Shows how to Inject Sanity into a Debate

October 17, 2008

Yvonne Schick, Libertarian candidate for US Senate in Texas, injected sanity into the October 9 League of Women Voters’ debate. This is how they used to do Presidential debates! Good stuff. She enunciated the classical libertarian positions and made some great points, including:

  • If the terrorists of 9/11 wanted to take our freedom away, they succeeded via the Patriot Act.
  • To say that paying taxes is patriotic is an insult to the American people.
  • Government spending is what’s wrong with the economy.
  • Today’s prohibition on drugs isn’t working any better than the 1920’s prohibition on alcohol did.

When I run for office in 2010 I’ll be referring back to Ms. Schick’s performance in this debate for inspiration.
