Professional Accomplishments
1. Crypto & Web3
I received my first bitcoin in early 2011 as a donation for my Agora.io unconference series, where we hosted an early Bitcoin talk. Over the next few years, I accepted Bitcoin in all of my businesses, including Shield Mutual. I also organized early crypto fundraising for libertarian activists. I actively created content for the Steem network in its early days.
I consider myself crypto-agnostic. I use whatever crypto works. I am not the maximalist of any particular coin or chain. Values such as permissionlessness, decentralization and self-custody are foundational to my approach to crypto.
Bitcoin Cash
In 2019, my team and I moved to Bitcoin Cash. The community funded us twice and I accepted a position as Business Development Manager for Bitcoin ABC, the lead BCH protocol development team that forked BCH from BTC.
After 2 years of work, and despite the COVID overreactions in our target markets, we had achieved a number of key results for the BCH community, including the following.
- 1,038 new BCH merchants, mostly in Venezuela.
- 69 meetups.
- a large number of BCH videos and graphics that supported global BCH public relations.
- 2,500+ individuals directly trained in the basic use of BCH.
- verifiable marketing impact in 90 global cities.
- Custom software development and information systems design to ensure adequate quality control of new merchant and user data.
Some of my key results while working for Bitcoin ABC include the following.
- Wrote, published, marketed and defended the first business plan for Bitcoin ABC, the team that forked BCH from BTC in 2017.
- Raised or sustained funding for Bitcoin ABC of more than $1.81 million USD in the span of a few months.
- Designed, produced, marketed and defended a comprehensive and large-scale transparency and media initiative, encompassing text, video and community outreach, for Bitcoin ABC that sparked greater BCH community cohesion and discussion, as well as a press kit.
- Built new relationships and strengthened existing ones for Bitcoin ABC.
- Drafted, edited and published a new BCH about section on CoinMarketCap.com.
- Organized a massive and well-attended online conference with 34 talks to celebrate the 4th “forkday anniversary” of Bitcoin Cash on 1 Aug 2020.
Separately, I volunteered with the Electron Cash wallet team in 2021-2 to redesign the mobile wallets. I recruited a UX/UI designer, successfully pitched the Electron Cash team on funding the work, performed/oversaw UX testing that informed the process and oversaw/contributed to the design process until it was completed.
I also mentor a number of other BCH builders from time to time in private.
In early 2022, I handed leadership of the BCH Latam project over to my number two, Jose Araujo. I remain active as a volunteer advisor for the team and the community continued funding the project for a time.
In 2023, I moved on to writing technical tutorials for the CashTokens network upgrade and building sites that integrate with the blockchain using Next.JS, React, GraphQL, CashScript, TailwindCSS and other tools.

Dash
I created and operated a series of very successful proposals in the Dash DAO treasury system for 16 months in 2018-2019, even garnering almost 10% of the monthly budget.
I built the largest team for Dash which was also the largest marketing team. We delivered a large number of globally outstanding results for Dash during this time of crypto bear market.
- 1,160 active Dash-accepting merchants across 8 countries (1,304 total).
- 500 active merchants in the city of Medellín, Colombia.
- 159 Dash events, mostly at the places of business of merchants, as many as 8 simultaneous ones in different cities.
- #1 largest Dash meetup in the world.
- 5,000+ individuals directly trained in the basic use of Dash.
- 150 leaders trained to advance Dash adoption.
- introduced pricing parity to Dash (where wallets, POS, etc. share the same pricing source and thus fiat prices are in sync across the ecosystem) in collaboration with ecosystem companies and developers.
- invented combo remittances, where we enabled remittance senders outside of Venezuela to buy basic necessities directly from Venezuelan merchants, paying with Dash across borders, and have the products (usually food and medical items) delivered directly to the remittance recipient.
- supported hundreds of OTC buys and sells of Dash and thousands of small airdrops.
- achieved 25,000+ video views on 345 Youtube videos about our work.
- provided intensive feedback and testing for Dash wallets to Dash Core Group, inc. that resulted in many code changes.
I also co-founded Dash Retail (renamed to CTX), a project to develop mass adoption infrastructure.
My Dash projects were always independent of Dash Core Group, inc. (DCG) and I did not report to DCG.
During this time, I developed a business plan (now obsolete) for making crypto-as-cash mass adoption economically profitable.

”George is just a relentless problem solver.”
Dash MNO
“GeorgeDonnelly, I respect the work you are doing. It looks like you are actually getting results. Some people are able to manage/organize ‘ideas’ into ‘reality’ and George appears to have special talent here.”
Dash MNO posting on treasury proposal
“George’s team has demonstrated an extremely high level of professionalism, communication, and most importantly accountability when it comes to reporting and representing the work they have accomplished.”
MNO and Dash discord mod posting on treasury proposal
“The proposal owner who inspires me the most. Serious yet approachable. Hitting the streets, closing deals, expanding his team. This proposal embodies what attracted me to the Dash DAO-the ability to expand adoption through regional leads. Keep going George you pump so many of us up!”
Dash community member and proposal owner
“I have taken it upon myself to visit as many merchants as possible this month to buy goods and services and verify that they actually accept Dash. There are two new merchants right here in Sabaneta, walking distance from my home. All of the merchants that I have visited thus far this month are new to me. So far, the experience has been excellent as every merchant has accepted Dash. I encourage MNOs to review my twitter feed for a long list of photos of my visits.”
Dash MNO
”This team has demonstrated that they can deliver on promises.”
Dash community member
”I don’t know anybody who has worked harder than the Latam team to drive Dash adoption.”
key community member and moderator
“Remittance into Venezuela is what has been missing from our Venezuela strategy so far. A team outside Venezuela is best situated to deliver that key piece. We could not get a better team that the one George has built in Colombia to start getting remittance into Venezuela happening.”
MNO on treasury proposal
“I urge everyone to vote yes for this proposal. George has proven his dedication to Dash and getting Dash adopted in particular. He’s very open about how he runs his project, he’s continually developing and brainstorming new strategies, he has put more foot-time on the ground than just about anyone, and he’s getting great results. In case anyone forgot, George and his team have single-handedly pushed Colombia into second place in Dash adoption, and he’s doing it in an economy that doesn’t have the economic desperation that Venezuela has.”

”I gave a presentation at international web conference he organized. George is one of the best project managers I’ve worked with. His communication was timely and relevant. The conference went as scheduled. George was prepared with instructions and technical support for all the presenters. I’m looking forward to working with him at our next conference in the fall.” - W.P.
”I am impressed by George Donnelly on several fronts. I have witnessed with real appreciation the effort he has invested in creating the Agora I/O on-line conference series. He has demonstrated creativity, imagination, and dedication to the cause of freedom, as well as the obviously vital organizational abilities required to structure such an event. In other contexts, I have seen George demonstrate courage and passion—as he stood up to the TSA and helped to create We Won’t Fly. He has always treated me in a polite and respectful way. Bottom line: I would happily work with George on a variety of projects; and, in so doing, I would be confident that he would exhibit valuable communicative, organizational, and technical skills.” - Prof. Gary Chartier, Distinguished Professor of Law and Business Ethics, La Sierra University
”George has vision, integrity, and energy. Any one of these qualities would set him apart, but the combination of the three make him a force to be reckoned with! He would be a valuable addition to any project.” - M.T.
”George’s services, first at Zettai and now at High Speed Rails, have helped me and my companies focus on what we do best while not having to worry about the hosting back-end. He is an expert Zope consultant and Unix system administrator who is proactive and resourceful when it comes to resolving technical, capacity and security issues. I’m more than happy to give him this unsolicited recommendation and look forward to our continued business relationship.” - N.M.
”George Donnelly displayed tremendous leadership, innovation and diligence in conceiving and implementing We Won’t Fly. Collaborating with his partner Jim Babb, George took an important issue that had previously stayed below the radar and propelled it to the center of discussion among both mainstream and alternative media. Throughout the campaign, George demonstrated a rare ability to bring together disparate groups and work with sometimes challenging personalities, while always maintaining his composure and good humor. I highly recommend George to anyone looking to make a real impact and change the status quo.” - J.L.
”I’m always lucky to get George on my team. He has a rare mix of principles, skills and drive. I highly recommend George, especially for social media, video and web related projects.” - J.B.

”George hosted my websites for a few years at Zettai he was thorough and patient, an unusual combination in an IT specialist.” - J.S.

”I help ChicagoFairTrade.org design/develop/maintain their Plone based web site. We chose George’s hosting service Zettai in 2005 because they also hosted Oxfam America’s Plone site at the time, and they had well-designed tiered hosting services. We remain with George at HighSpeedRails because he sets the bar for all other Zope/Plone capable hosting services.” - J.M.
”I have been a customer of George’s both at Zettai and now at Highspeedrails. He has always provided excellent service and technical insight, and has been very responsive to outage issues, forgotten passwords, et al.” - M.M.
”Quite apart from George Donnelly’s professionalism and genuine talent as an editor, working with him on a recent book project was great fun. I cannot stress the latter strongly enough because being edited is usually a stressful and damnably annoying process. How he made me want to come back for more is an act that raises him out of the ranks of muggles. I would work with George again in a flash.” — Wendy McElroy, author of Rape Culture Hysteria: Fixing the Damage Done to Men and Women.
”It’s been a pleasure having you in charge, George. I think the whole project would have sunk if you didn’t take over, and it would have been a real shame. Thank you so much for taking this on. So excited to finally see it happening.” — Marilyn Vix, indie romance novelist and KBoards member.
”George has offered me incredibly incisive developmental edits and feedback on a number of fiction pieces, ranging from a 3,000 word short story, up to a 50,000 word novel. I almost always make the changes he suggests, and find the piece is always tighter, richer, and more fully-realized as a result. Highly recommended.” — J.P. Medved, author of Steampunk adventures and thoughtful thrillers.
”George has been awesome to work with! He responds promptly and does a great job. I highly recommend him to anyone needing editing or formatting. His efforts to produce quality indie anthologies are much appreciated, too.” — J. Naomi Ay, author of The Two Moons of Rehnor series.
”George Donnelly did an excellent edit for one of my upcoming works. Not only was he thorough in the nuts and bolts of writing, the grammar and punctuation, but he also made several suggestions that will greatly improve the story. He found areas where I needed to work on consistency and clarity and suggested a way to build more tension at chapter ends. I highly recommend George for all of your editing needs and will definitely work with him again.” — Jeanette Raleigh, author of Moon Struck: A Hilarious Werewolf Romance.
”George is a top-notch editor who is fast, thorough, and accurate. Working with him is not only painless, but actually a lot of fun! His thoughtful suggestions for improving my writing were right on the mark. Having an editor with such a keen eye for detail put my mind at ease when submitting my work for publication. I can’t imagine working with another editor. George is my go-to person for all my editing and proofreading needs.” — Heather Biedermann, author of fantasy, horror, and science fiction tales.
”Working with George has been an absolute pleasure. He is reliable and accurate, the two best things you need in an editor. I would definitely recommend him to anyone without a moment’s hesitation.” — Jamie Campbell, indie author
”I’ve worked with George on a few projects, and have found he is very dedicated to his work. His focus on getting things properly edited and formatted surpasses many people I have worked with in the past. George has very high standards for any project he is involved with, striving to maintain high quality and marketability, and that can only help in today’s competitive publishing world. I wouldn’t hesitate to hire him in the future, should I be so fortunate as to be able to do so.” — Griffin Carmichael, science fiction and horror author.
”George has been great to work with: super friendly and responsive, and his editing skills are impeccable. I would use him again in a heartbeat!” — Lincoln Cole, author of Raven’s Peak.
”I’ve worked with George on several projects and can recommend him without any hesitation. He’s easy to work with and is a good communicator. He’s also well-organized, reliable, and a superb indie marketer.” — Richard B Walsh, co-author of the Adventures of Seamus Tripp.
”I’ve worked with George Donnelly on flash fiction anthologies. As the editor of each anthology, he does a good job of working with several authors to get their stories into their best possible form. A writer himself, he understands the process, and his own passion carries over into everything he does. He’s also extremely well-organized, an absolute necessity for a busy editor.” — Bill Hiatt, author of young adult fantasy, including the Spell Weaver series.
”My experience with George is that he’s both thorough and conscientious — both critical qualities in any professional editor. He also understands the dynamic of genre authors, and can always be counted on to be responsive in that way.” — Alex R. Knight III, author of horror, science fiction, and fantasy tales.

”I have worked with George Donnelly on two anthologies and have found him to pay good attention to detail. He gives helpful feedback in a concise and timely manner.” – Vaughn Treude, science fiction author
”Zettai has been wonderful. They say, ‘We love newbies’ and it is true. Every question we’ve asked we’ve received a courteous and speedy response. We couldn’t be happier!” - hosting customer
”I originally signed up at zettai because I wanted to experiment with zope. I needed a host who was inexpensive, and small enough to provide personal service. I found it! George knows what developers want (hosting on fast hardware, software kept updated to latest releases, continually adding new services, ability to offer custom configurations). George is very knowledgeable as a sysadmin and a developer, he contributes to zope forums, and provides great customer service. Zettai doesn’t promote its support for LAMP technologies much, but I’ve upgraded my account and I am moving my perl and python projects to zettai.” - hosting customer
”If you are in any doubt as to where to host your ZOPE site, look no further than zettai.net. Whether your site is large, medium, or small zettai.net offers a package for you. I run a fantasy hockey league and a small website design business on my account. ZOPE makes all of the ideas I can think of possible, and I never have trouble finding help when I try to implement them. I can usually communicate with George directly, and if not the community is very helpful. You are getting much more than webspace. I would and have recommended it to any and everyone.” - hosting customer
”As a newbie to Zope, Plone and Python in January 2003 dealing with George Donnelly and the service at zettai.net has been almost as fun as getting to know the Zope server. First, George responds quickly to email, and if you’re in a jam he seems to me to be readily available on IM. I have even seen him answer questions on the plone-users list, which leads me to conclude that George is a really good teacher. As such he is available, has low frustration level for newbie’s (Thank G-d), and very importantly he seems to be willing to teach people Python and Zope.” - hosting customer
”Zettai hosting plans give me everything that I need for my site and more, at a fraction of the costs that other companies charge. The company is professional and knows what they are doing. I feel that I can trust them with my production site.” - hosting customer
”As an experienced Zope user and developer (I’ve been developing for and administrating Zope for 4 years now), I have been very pleased with the level of service that Zettai provides. I have dealt with many hosting services (Verio, Qwest, Rackspace, Readyhosting, Prohosting, etc) in my roles as IT Manager and server administrator at various jobs as well as in doing contracting work. Zettai is as professional and reliable as any of the majors, in my experience. Issue response times are fast, server performance is excellent, and Zettai keep users well informed of any scheduled maintenance windows. I currently host 4 domains on zettai and plan to add more. I would highly recommend Zettai as a hosting solution for both newbies and experienced Zopistas.” - hosting customer
”George from Zettai.net is always willing to help out. Often surprisingly fast. Sometimes I think ‘Does he ever get some sleep’ ;-) George is also proactive in looking for improvements and communicating with the Zettai customers about what is wanted. Even more: encouraging a Zettai community where people help each other out. Guess what, I am a happy camper!” - hosting customer
”George, you’re definitely a good webmaster. All the Emencia team join me to thank you for your excellent Zope service in Frankfurt. Everything is perfect : nice welcome, the best zope hoster I ever known ! I am totally convinced by Zettai.” - hosting customer
”Zettai staff truly go above and beyond the call of duty in providing very knowledgable, speedy and high quality service. Their expertise in Zope-related products, apache, and FreeBSD system administration, and their willingness to provide advice in said subjects, has been especially valuable to me. Their commitment to these technologies is evidenced by George Donnelly’s help on community mailing lists.” - hosting customer
”Zope/Plone/MySQL/PHP are critical technologies for the success of our site but we could not have taken advantage of them without the support we have received from George. The technology is only as good as those who stand behind it. We are with Zettai for the long haul.” - hosting customer
”At this moment we have two accounts running at Zettai. We are very pleased with the many Zope-things they offer in relation to the pricing of the accounts. And of course with the very fine support George offers us. Thanks to him we have a compicated XML-driven site up and running. We already have recommended Zettai-hosting to other companies who need zope hosting.” - hosting customer
”It seems that George doesn’t sleep. He’s always available, just send an email to the support service and he’ll reply to you the same day. Zettai is also helping the Mockup OpenSource project growing.” - hosting customer
3. Science Fiction
I write science fiction and thriller series and short stories about morally and mentally strong people struggling to be free from sinister forces, often in dystopian futures, so that you can have a thrilling emotional experience of struggle and freedom. I like big stakes and grand schemes.
When I was 10, my dad gave me an adult library card for the Free Library of Philadelphia. Over the next few years, I devoured the works of Asimov, Heinlein, Dick, Bradbury, McCaffrey, Niven, Pournelle and dozens of other science fiction and fantasy authors. I have also read and reread many times Hemingway, Kafka, Bukowski and Rand.
Today, I’m an unreformed idealist who believes equally in human rights and abundant hugs before bedtime. But my calling is to be a rebel. Not the violent kind – the kind that has different ideas and innovates with them. Rebellion is a worthy vocation. I bring you my unique brand of rebellion now through my science fiction novels and novellas.
What Inspires Me
I love watching movies. Some recent ones that I enjoyed are Interstellar, Moon, How I Live Now, Upside Down, Children of Men, The Truman Show, Minority Report and Gattaca. I like strong, active characters who are overcoming great obstacles to achieve important goals. I like protagonists who are truly heroes. I’m constantly on the hunt for the latest updates on the robotization of industry, apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic scenarios, the singularity, transhumanism, nanotechnology, life extension, superstring theory and interstellar space travel.
Reader Comments
I think your theories, premises, and works of fiction, enjoy the success they do, because, in a certain unique way, they are beautiful. I don’t know what your influences are, if any, but whenever I read your work, it doesn’t remind me of anyone else. Perhaps it’s because being a fiction writer requires you to create a worldview of your own?
T.M., reader
I really enjoyed George’s first (even though I started with some of the drafts even before official release). Not only because he practices what he writes about and is a great person, but also because the novel is well-written, fun, and contains some great ideas. Heroic line, romantic line, hard-working individuals who save the day, libertarian ideas, betrayal, statist maniacs and infiltrators, assassins and terrorists, and, above all, agoracopters!
Amazon reviewer
George does a great job crafting believable, likable characters into a compelling tale which incorporates many common elements of futuristic science fiction without feeling stale or derivative. A really enjoyable read all around – I highly recommend!

I am physically winded after reading this book, Rork never stops! I look forward to following Rork and Lala’s adventures together asap! Good solid writing, thank you George Donnelly.

4. Activism
I became active in the liberty movement in 2007, making contributions to the US Libertarian Party, participating in Free State Project events, engaging in jury rights pamphleting outside of federal courthouses, resisting over-aggressive TSA security theater in airports, organizing online conferences, visiting Colombian campesinos threatened by multi-national corporations, blogging, vlogging and more.
Politically, I am a libertarian and enjoy ideas from the voluntaryist, market anarchist, agorist and mutualist communities. I don’t see myself as either right or left.
I would like to facilitate the creation of a world where transnational commercial cooperatives, DAOs and other forms of stateless governance have supplanted the nation-state as the dominant mode of governance.
Whoopi Goldberg called me a terrorist on national network TV and CNN says I’m intriguing.

In addition, he is also an able advocate for Gandhian nonviolence and unschooling. It’s rare to see someone who not only has so many different irons in the fire, but can handle the projects competently at the same time.” – Kevin Carson (Center for a Stateless Society)
